Phan Thiet City, One of the Best Resort Destination in Vietnam
Phan Thiet, also known as Phan Thiet City or city of Phan Thiet is a developing city in the south-eastern part of Vietnam. As the capital of Bình Thuận Province, the city houses many politically important buildings along with a host of historically important monuments. Divided into urban wards and suburban communes, Phan Thiet City has also transformed itself into a resort destination post 1995. Due to its location near the South China Sea, the city has been one of the premier fishing centres of Vietnam.
History
Once ruled by Champa and Đại Việt empires, Vietnamese conquest of this land began as early as the 17th century. The city was founded in the year 1898 as Phan Thiết town; though it was incorporated in 1933 as the Commune of Phan Thiết. The city gets its name in the honour of Hamu Lithit. Hamu was changed to Phan to sound it more Vietnamese while lithit got converted into Thiet, and both words combined to form the present name. Modern history has it that Hồ Chí Minh, the famous revolutionary leader once called Phan Thiết city his home (though only for a small period).
