City Puerto Iguazu in Argentina- A Renowned Tourist Destination

Located 18 kilometers away from world-renowned Iguazu falls, Puetro Iguazu is developed as a tourist spot in the province of Misiones in Argentina.

History
Till 1880, the city was inhabited by Guarani Indians. Although, in 1551, Spanish explorer Álvar Núñez Cabeza de Vaca had discovered the Iguazu falls, because of the noise it made. After that, in the course of two years, the land near the falls changed hands three times, and came ultimately under the ownership of Gregorio Lezama. Misiones, which was till then part of the province Corrientes was separated into a new province. Lezama sold lands to Martín Errecaborde and Cía in 1888.

Popular Places and Monuments
Iguazu falls are one of the most prominent places in Argentina, dividing Parana state of Brazil and Misiones province of Argentina. It also divides river Iguazu in two halves, upper Iguazu and lower Iguazu. Known for their breathtaking beauty, they were called as ‘Poor Niagara!’ by Eleanor Roosevelt and also compared to Victoria Falls. The height of the highest falls is 82 meters, known as Devil’s throat. They are tiered and segmented falls, consisting of 275 drops, also 5th highest falls in the world.

The Triple Frontier is a border shared by three countries, Paraguay (Ciude Del Este), Argentina (Puerto Iguazu), and Brazil (Foz do Iguaçu). It is a popular tourist region, however, there is organized crime, and illicit activities have started happening there, lately.

The Tancredo Neves Bridge, popularly known as the Fraternity Bridge, is also one of the important tourist destinations, as it connects Brazil and Argentina. It is 489 meters in length, 16.5 meters in width, and is 70 meters high. It was opened on 29th November, 1985 for use by vehicular traffic.

Getting Around
There are numerous buses which operate towards different places like falls, National Park, etc. One can check his or her hotel for the time-table. Also, there is a ferry service. Taxis operate at fixed rate, according to distance.

Places for Entertainment
La Rueda is the nicest restaurant in Puetro Iguazu aesthetically, as also, in terms of food. English is spoken in the restaurant. La Barranca is a nice place for drinks, with great music, besides the two rivers, and the Three Frontiers. In the street, and in market, souvenirs are sold.

Iguazu National Park is surrounded by subtropical jungle, and has an area of 550 square kilometers. It is a natural national park, established in 1934.
