City Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt: The City of Peace
One of the most accessible as well as developed cities in the country, City Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt offers an ecstatic combination of sun, sand, and sea. Brief History
On a promontory overlooking the straits of Tiran on the mouth of the Gulf of Aqaba, the city of Sharm El Sheikh is a major port and naval base for the Egyptian Navy. Israel captured it during the Sinai Conflict of 1956 and it was restored to Egypt in 1957. Sinai Peninsula was recaptured in 1967 by Israel and restored to Egypt again in 1982. With Naama Bay, Hay el Nour, Hadaba, Rowaysat, Montazah and Shark Bay the city forms a metropolitan area. A host of important Middle Eastern peace conferences have been held in the city. World Economic Forum on Middle East was hosted by the city in 2008.
Located to the north of Sharm this area is developing into a resort town. Small harbour known as the Sharm el Moiya has accommodations for boats, as well as a Yacht club with rooms.
Getting Around
Private yachts and boats and cruise ships form major mode of transport in the city. International airport has scheduled flights to Cairo, Luxor, Alexmandria, Hughada, London and charter flights are available for other parts of Europe. Popular Places and Monuments
Ras Muhammed Park, Namma Bay, and great view of the cliff overlooking the port at 4 miles in the southern section of the town, Na’ama Beach and its golden shining sand and foaming and breaking waves, a number of private beaches are all major attractions and popular places in the city. Shops and local markets are famous for jewelleries, leather goods, books, potteries, and clothing. Colourful handicraft and exotic night life are other attractions.
Other Places of Interest
Bedouins, mountains and sea, colourful tents distinguish the city from others. Diving, camel and horse riding, water sports, desert safaris, snorkelling, and great nearby antiquities attractions. It becomes almost impossible for visitors to suffer any boredom. Sharm El Sheikh earned international reputation as one of the world’s most extraordinary diving destinations in the Red Sea in Egypt.

news on the electronic and print media and Internet is advisable. Currently one Euro is equivalent to 7.31 Egyptian Pound and one US Dollar is equivalent to 5.598 Egyptian Pound but the rates can vary from time to time in a highly volatile exchange market.
