Valencia – The Summer City of Spain

Valencia is better known as the summer city of Spain, as it is mostly visited by tourists in this season. Being the capital city of Autonomous Community of Valencia and the third largest city of Spain, Valencia is a well-known name on the world’s map.

History:
Iberian people are considered as first visitors to the city of Valencia. Roman foundations were established in and around 2nd century. After that, Greeks, Visigoths and Muslims were some of the many visitors that witnessed the rise of Valencia. King James I conquered the city in the 13th century, but didn’t annex it to his empire, but made it an autonomous kingdom. Middle Ages brought economic growth for the city, though the city’s economy went on declining due to events like war of Germania in the 16th century and it is considered as the dark age of Valencia.

The modern history of the city talks about the War of Succession, Napoleon invasions and industrialization in the 19th century. Rapid development and economic growth has turned the city into a popular tourist destination.
