City Varadero – The Beach Destination of Cuba

Located at the Hicacos Peninsula, sandwiched between the Bay of Cárdenas and the Straits of Florida, Varadero is a famous international tourist spot in Cuba, well famous for its spectacular beaches that spread over 20 Km. History
Varadero traces its origin to 1555 when it was used as a dry dock by the Spanish to cater to the Spanish Latin America Fleet since 1587. As a city it came into existence many years later in 1887, when ten families from the city of Cárdenas built their vacation homes in this city.  In 1976 it became a municipality by the administrative re-distribution of some of the erstwhile territories of Cárdenas.

Popular Places
The Bellamar Caves are one of the oldest attractions in Cuba. Comprising of a maze of underground caves that are famous for the natural stalagmites and stalactites formations are great tourist attractions. Easy going and tranquil, this city has many parks included Parque Josone, which is a sprawling garden with walking paths. Ideal for a leisurely stroll, a siesta by the lake side- this park is an essential stopover. Varadero boasts the only golf course of Cuba and the pleasant weather conditions of the city make it a popular spot for enjoyable tee sessions all through the year.

Getting Around
This lively city could be explored on foot as most of the tourist attractions – be it shopping or sightseeing are all located at easy distances. Some of the other modes of transport include tourist train, car rentals and bike rentals. Double Decker buses and horse driven carriages are probably the most popular options among tourists to enjoy the city sights at easy pace, a good guide to hassle free travel is to keep some small notes handy to pay for your travel.
