City Xian in China- Land of Terracotta Warriors

Xian, an ancient historic city of China reached new heights of popularity with the discovery of Terracotta Warriors and Horses. Located in the Guanzhong basin, it marks the beginning of the ancient Silk Road.

There are many youth hostels surrounding the Bell Tower which lies in the heart of the city. History
Xian’s history goes way back to 3100 years. It was a capital for almost all great dynasties of China like Qin, Tang, Sui and Han and is now remembered as one of the greatest ancient capitals of China. The Qin dynasty formed the Terracotta army in Xian. After the economic revival of China in 1990’s, Xian is now the centre of industrialization. Shaanxi is rich in coal, oil and other natural resources and this made Xian a major source of China’s energy production.

Popular Places and Monuments
Terracotta Army Museum which has Terracotta warriors and horses (life sized and made of pottery) arranged in army formation around the Emperors Qin Shi Huang’s tomb.

Old City Wall of Ming Dynasty, which is more than 600 years old, surrounds the inner Xian city. Big Wild Goose Pagoda and Shaanxi Provincial Museum are also the main attractions of Xian.

Getting Around
Xian’s airport XianYang is 35 km from the city. It’s the fourth biggest in China and connects Xian to major tourist cities of China. Xian’s railway station has daily trains connecting Xian with other Chinese cities. Public buses have pick-up points all around the city and there are special sightseeing buses also. Taxis are also common in Xian. You can hire a cab with a driver (who can be your guide) for sightseeing.

Places of Entertainment
Xian has amazing nightlife. The best way to start it is by visiting the Bell Tower which is illuminated at night giving you a whole new view of the city. Nightclubs and bars having karaoke facilities are available in abundance.
