History
History of Yangon runs parallel with Shwedagon Pagoda that can be viewed from any part of the city. Origin of Shwedagon goes back to the days of Gautama Buddha, the sage and two merchant brothers Taphussa and Bhallika. Legend goes that the pagoda was repaired by Emperor Ashoka of India in 543 BC. In 11th century the Pagoda was rebuilt by King Anawrath of Bagan. The Year 1775 marked the beginning of the modern Yangon that evolved into the largest and capital city of Myanmar within next two centuries.

Bus and train are the common conveyance in Yangon. Dagon Ayeyar Highway Bus Terminal in Hlaing Tharyar and Aung Mingalar Highway Bus Terminal are the two major bus terminals in the city. Over 250 bus lines carry around 2.5 million commuters every day.
Circular train services with eleven local trains and 37 trains are running in and around the city. While plenty of taxis are plying, there are also ferry services across the Yangon River to Dala between Pansodan Warf and Dala Warf. Yangon International Airport conducts both international and domestic flights.
