History:
Originating from the late 18th century, Tampere grew to be the industrial hub of Finland by virtue of its location in the midst of lakes. Besides playing a vital role in the civil war of Finland, Tampere also gave Scandinavia its first Electric light.

Nasijarvi and Pyhajarvi lakes surrounding the city add to the beauty of the place. Visitors can grab the famous Finnish donut, Munkki, at the park.

Various amazing exhibits including Shoes, Finnish Hockey in the museums at Vapriikki draws many visitors. Tuomiokirkko, which is the landmark cathedral of the city, not only attracts visitors with its splendid architecture but also with its unusual, controversial paintings inside.  Moominvalley museum is a tribute to the creator of Moomin, Tove Jansson. Besides various books, illustrations, tableaux about the famous Moomin, the miniature Moomin house draws many visitors. The historical life of Tampere is well depicted at Amuri museum. The rose garden in Arboretum park is a must visit in summer. The charming Pispala district, located on hill, is a must visit. Unusual experience of taking the steps along the hill side to reach the top can be truly incredible. The hill top also renders amazing views of Nasijarvi and Pyhajarvi lakes.

Tampere is well connected by air and trains while buses are the better options to get around, the best guide is to check the Bus maps and time tables for the quickest routes and times. City can also be explored by foot.

The Sarkanniemi amusement park is a must visit when in Tampere. Besides its amazing rides, the dolphinarium and aquarium also draw many visitors in summer. Kuninkaankatu,the pedestrian street, Koskikeskus, the main shopping center and Hameenkatu offer superb shopping experience. Stroll along the ubiquotous lakes can be very relaxing and many clubs and pubs add to the bustling night life in Tampere.
