Mexico City is the capital of Mexico and is the largest and most populous city of the country. Also, it is well-known as the world’s third largest urban area, historical landmarks and a number of tourist places. Located in the Valley of

History
Mexico City was originally built by the Aztecs as Tenochtitlan in the year 1325. It was in the beginning of the 15th century that Spanish conqueror Hernan Cortes was impressed by the beauty and large area covered by the city. The Aztecs revolted and uprooted Spaniards in 1520, but only after one year the Spanish forces recaptured the city. The Spaniards replaced the marks of Aztecs and rebuilt the city in their own style. Mixico was the new name given to the city.
The city remained under Spanish control till 1821, when it was declared independent like all other places of the country. In 1824, the city was declared as the capital of the republic of Mexico. The city experienced phenomenal growth in the 20th century and tourism industry also grew over this period.
Popular Places
Plaza de la Constitucion is one of the historical landmarks of the city and one of the world’s largest squares, surrounded by a number of old buildings like the Cathedral and the City Hall. Basilica de Guadalupe is well-known as the venue of pilgrims, as it accommodates the shrine to guard the shroud of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Torre Mayor is one of the many towers of the city, known to offer some impressive views of the city.
Mexico City National Cemetery is the burial place of American soldiers lost during wars in the 19th century. Chapultepec Park and Zoo is the popular park in the city that accommodates a number of museums and the city zoo. Xochimilco is another exciting tourist place, as it offers a number of waterways and flower gardens. It has been recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Viveros de Coyoacán is another place to visit the rich greenery offered by the city.
One can also visit a number of wonderful museums in the city, including National Museum of Anthropology, Fine Arts Palace Museum, Casa Mural Diego Rivera, Frida Khalo Museum and many more.
Getting Around
Metro service is the most convenient way to get around the Mexico City a good
guide is to have some coins and small notes handy to pay for your metro ticket. One can also choose bus service, metro bus, trolley bus, light rail and variety of other transport facilities to move from one corner of the city to another. Car rentals and taxi services can also be considered useful transport mediums.
