History
The word Narita means rice paddy that could refer to its expansive rich paddy fields. This city is thought to have been inhabited since prehistoric times and the rice cultivation dates back to 100 BCE. The urbanization of this area began in the Nara period in 940 CE, during which the Narita-san Temple was also set up. Narita became a town in 1889, and the city evolved in 1954.
