Singapore City – The Crown of Singapore

History of Singapore City
In the 16th century, Singapore was under the control of the Johur Kingdom. It was in 1819, when Sir Stamford Raffles struck a treaty with the then ruling Sultan of Johur and to make Singapore a part of the British Empire. Singaporeans hence regard Raffles as the founder of the island which finally achieved its independence on August 9, 1965.

Other places of tourist interest in the city are the Bedok Town Centre, Butterfly Park and Insect Kingdom Museum, Fantasy Island, Cathedral of the Good Shepherd, Cavengah Bridge, etc.
Getting Around in Singapore City
Buses connect most of the hubs of Singapore City and operate from 6 am in the morning till midnight. Consult a travel guide to have a fair idea of the bus routes. Air-conditioned taxis are also a common sight on the roads of Singapore City.
