City Cardoba in Argentina – The Rugby Hub of Argentina

Touted as the ‘Heart of Argentina’, Córdoba is the second largest city in Argentina and the capital of Cardoba province. Located at the foothills of the Sierras Chicas along the banks of the Suquía River, it is famous for its spectacular natural spectacles and outdoor fun activities. It has many magnificent colonial buildings and UNESCO heritage sites to its credit including the well known Jesuit Block, which comprises of a group of 17th century edifices.

History
Córdoba was founded in 1573 along the banks of the Suquía River by Jerónimo Luis de Cabrera, who named it after Córdoba, Spain. It was one of the first Spanish Colonial capitals of the region that is in 1599, the religious order of the Jesuits arrived and during this period many churches and schools were built. Jesuits left the city following the decree by King Charles III of Spain after which European settlers ruled this city. His city witnessed mutiny and revolts before a democratically elected Government came into power in 1973.

There are many historical buildings, churches and heritage sites in this city, considered as one of the most culturally rich cities in Argentina. Near the Plaza San Martín square, is the Jesuit Cathedral with embellishments in gold and silver. The colonial Government house is yet another attraction. In addition there are sprawling shopping centres, beautiful pedestrian streets and green spaces like Sarmiento Park.

Cardoba has a well developed road network, which makes it easily accessible from all parts.
